Nottingham Forest accept Anthony Elanga bid amid battle between Premier League rivals
Newcastle have agreed a deal rising to £60million to sign Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, talkSPORT understands.
The Magpies have previously seen a £45m offer knocked back for the 23-year-old earlier in the window.
But they have now thrashed out an initial £55m deal with Forest – plus add-ons to take it to £60m – to fend off interest from Aston Villa.
talkSPORT reported last week how the Villans had entered the race to sign the 22-cap Sweden international, who starred in the 2024/25 season.
It proved to be the most productive season so far from his career so far as he chipped in with six goals 12 assists from 43 games in all competitions.
His dazzling displays helped Forest earn a spot in the UEFA Conference League.
Next term will be the first season that the Reds will be plying their trade across the continent in 30 years.
But Elanga instead looks set to play Champions League football at St James’ Park.
It is believed he will pen a five-year contract on Tyneside with the player to now undergo a medical having been given permission.
The Magpies made the former Manchester United forward one of their top targets this summer.
It is believed that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side didn’t want to part ways with Elanga, who they signed for £15m in 2023.
However, a £55m deal has been struck between Forest and Newcastle.
The news will come as a boost to United in their transfer plans, who will pocket £8m from the transfer due to a sell-on clause from his 2023 move to Forest.
For Newcastle, they will be breathing a sigh of relief having seen a number of deals hijacked this summer.
Joao Pedro was earmarked a top target, only for Chelsea to sign the Brazilian instead.
Newcastle had been in talks with the Seagulls since May, but acted too slow in their negotiations.
Meanwhile, they also appear resigned to missing out on Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.
The Red Devils are in pole position to land the 25-year-old should he depart the Gtech Community Stadium.
And Newcastle were also in for Dean Huijsen after the defender starred at Bournemouth in the recent season.
However, Huijsen ultimately decided to join Real Madrid in a £50m transfer.
And Newcastle could finish the window without star man Anthony Gordon, who is on Liverpool’s radar ahead of a possible £100m swoop.
