The 23-year-old three-time Slam winner has never gone beyond the semi finals at SW19 before, but heads into today’s fourth round clash in exhilarating form having not dropped a set of tennis so far throughout the tournament.
The Italian has dropped only 17 games through the Championships this year, including only five in each of his last two matches, most recently defeating Pedro Martinez after getting the better of both Aleksandar Vukic and Luca Nardi.
34-year-old Dimitrov will be the biggest test of Sinner’s tournament so far with the world number one not having faced anyone inside the top 50 so far.
The Bulgarian heads into the fourth round, the stage at which he has lost in each of the last two Wimbledon Championships, having dropped only one set in the tournament so far.
Dimitrov, a semi finalist at SW19 back in 2014, started this year’s campaign with a straight sets victory over Yoshihito Nishioka, before a four-set victory against Corentin Moutet which was followed by a 3-0 win against Sebastian Ofner to book his spot in the fourth round against the world number one.
Sinner holds a 4-1 head-to-head record against the Bulgarian, with wins in each of their most recent four matches, most recently in the quarter finals of the French Open at Roland Garros last year, though this will be the two’s first ever meeting on grass.
